About Me
Mercè Tous is an illustrator specializing in children’s and youth literature. Born in Barcelona, the city where she lives and works, she finds inspiration in the sea, nature, and the cultural life that surrounds her. From a very young age, she felt a deep fascination for art. She loved drawing and painting with her grandfather, her first drawing teacher, and especially enjoyed immersing herself in illustrated books, animated films, and the theater.
She graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona and continued her artistic training by specializing in illustration at the Eina School and the Francesca Bonnemaison School. Later, she combined illustration with secondary school teaching, but for years she has worked exclusively as a freelance illustrator.
She currently collaborates with publishers in Spain and the United States. Her illustrations, full of sensitivity, color, and expressiveness, seek to create visual worlds that spark children’s imagination and curiosity. Each new project is an opportunity to learn, travel with storybook characters, and express her own artistic perspective of her surroundings. When she is not illustrating, she enjoys hiking in the mountains with friends and spending hours dancing swing and folk music, one of her other great passions.
